Build your own vector database
Setup & the O(N) wall·2 min

Run the grader

0 / 1
# grade this stage (from your course directory)
npx theinference test --stage run-the-grader --watch

Before writing any HNSW, prove the toolchain works. The grader runs your your_program.sh and checks its output. The first command is just a banner so you can confirm everything is wired.

Your task

Print the setup banner

Your your_program.sh setup must print exactly:

vector-db: toolchain OK

It is already wired in the starter src/cli.ts (the setup subcommand). Run the grader on this step to see it go green.

your_program.sh
npx tsx tests/harness/run.ts # adapter steps
# process steps run: ./your_program.sh <subcommand> <args...>
CPU-only, no API key

Everything in this course is pure TypeScript over Float32Array. No network, no model downloads, no Python. The vectors are seeded synthetic data baked into the fixtures, so two correct builds produce the same graph on every machine.

How it's graded

Process mode: the grader runs your_program.sh setup and asserts stdout exactly equals the expected banner (stdout_exact).
